The Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF), founded by renowned Pakistani cricketer and humanitarian Shahid Afridi, has long been a beacon of hope for underprivileged communities across Pakistan. Through its focus on education, healthcare, and clean water, SAF is empowering vulnerable families with the tools and opportunities they need for a brighter future. Their commitment to service and compassion for humanity deeply resonates with my own vision and values for building stronger, kinder communities. It was truly an honour to join so many South Australian community leaders and dignitaries as we welcomed some of Pakistan’s biggest stars during their Australian Fundraising Tour. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, pride, and heartfelt admiration.

The audience was especially inspired by squash legend Jehangir Khan, whose extraordinary record -remaining unbeaten for five years and eight months-m continues to motivate athletes and community members worldwide. We were also privileged to hear from celebrated actors Faysal Quraishi (known for Case No. 9, Khai and Raaja Rani) and Aijaz Aslam (from Fanaa, Baray Bhayya and Pehli Barish), whose presence brought energy, warmth, and a powerful sense of community spirit to encourage generous fundraising pledges.

My sincere thanks go to Atif Faheem and Erum Atif, Directors of the Shahid Afridi Foundation in Australia, for their strong leadership, and to the Management Committee of the Adelaide Pakistanis Multicultural Group along with many other organisations whose selfless volunteering made the event possible. It was also wonderful to see Australian squash great Chris Dittmar, former World No. 1, reconnect with his longtime friend Jehangir Khan - a moment appreciated by sports fans and community members alike.

What stood out most throughout the event was the unity and compassion shared by everyone present. Community groups, supporters, and South Australian representatives all came together with a single purpose: to help disadvantaged communities in Pakistan.

Heartfelt thanks to the Shahid Afridi Foundation and the many caring individuals, groups, and organisations involved, including the Pakistani Medical Association of South Australia (PMASA), Adelaide Pakistanis Multicultural Group, Pakistani Australian Association of South Australia, Kaya Disability Support, Pakistani Settlers in Adelaide, Pinnacle College SA, and many others.

Together, we demonstrated the power of solidarity - and the extraordinary things that can happen when communities unite for good.
