Celebrating 60 years of Armenian culture, heritage and community in South Australia!

The Armenian community’s story is one of courage and resilience. Many families came to South Australia in the early 1960s after surviving the horrors of the 1915 Armenian Genocide and rebuilding their lives in places like Lebanon, Syria and Iraq. They arrived here seeking safety and a fresh start and over six decades, they’ve kept their traditions alive while embracing Australian life.
Today, the Armenian community enriches our multicultural society through culture, education, business and civic leadership. Their commitment to preserving heritage and fostering harmony is truly inspiring.
As a proud member of Friends of Artsakh, I deeply value the Armenian community’s advocacy for justice and human rights. In 2021, I spoke in the South Australian Legislative Council in support of the historic motion recognising the Republic of Artsakh’s right to self-determination, which passed unanimously across both chambers, making South Australia the second Australian state to formally support Artsakh’s rights.
It was an honour to join the Armenian community leaders and organisations on the momentous occasion of 60 years of cultural pride, resilience and community spirit!
