South Australia’s multicultural communities contribute significantly to our social, cultural, and economic life. Recent conversations across community sectors have highlighted both the strengths of our diverse population and the emerging challenges affecting social cohesion. Issues such as community safety, respect, participation, and the impact of misinformation continue to shape the experiences of many people across the State.
In response to these insights, I have launched my new policy proposal calling for an annual, independently facilitated Multicultural Summit. The aim is to bring together a broad range of participants - including community organisations, faith groups, service providers, academics, media representatives, and industry voices - to examine what is working well and what is not working in current policy settings and service delivery design. Guided by an independent panel and supported administratively by the South Australian Multicultural Commission, the Summit is intended to be a high‑impact event - not another talkfest - but a focused process producing recommendations for consideration by the incoming State Government.
The concept builds on existing multicultural principles in South Australia, recognising the need to identify barriers, reduce division, and ensure communities feel confident and supported. By convening diverse groups to discuss priorities and address challenges, the Summit aims to harness the strengths of multiculturalism and contribute to a more harmonious and inclusive future for all South Australians.
Aligning with my three pillars of Better Community, Safer Society, and Stronger Economy this policy will benefit all South Australians.
